Sir Archibald Clark Keer,

H.B.M.Ambassador,

British Embassy,

Chungking

Dear Sir Archibald :-

Mr.MacDougall consulted me a few

days ago re. the wound of is left shoulder.

I had it X Rayed and found a bullet in the region of his scapula (shoulder blade). The x ray find- ings seemed to indicate that the bullet was rather sup- erficial. So I advised an operation for the removal of it.

On operating however I found that the bullet had passed through the bone leaving a small hole in it. I probed through this hole but did not locate the bullet. So it is placed rather deeply and behind (under) the bone. This would need a rather extensive operation to rescve. As the bullet soome to be causing no special trouble at present (no pus, etc.) I decided not to attempt to remove

it.

་་

MrMacDougall is now (4 days after operation) over at my house convalescing.Maxx left hospital this A.! His temperature is normal and he is oin as well as can

He will give to resi be expected after the operation. several more days before he can move aroun a freely.

His nervous system, owing to the experiences of the past few weeks, is in a rather unsatisfactory condition

(rained. This together, with the condition of his round bullet witr z possible complications in future) would in my opinion, make li desirable for in to leave China as soon an possible.

Yours si..c ›r
